Shanghai

Shanghai, China is the largest city by population in the People's Republic of China and the largest city proper by population in the world with 23,019,148 people. It is truly a beautiful and unique city with the mixture of old and new, historical and modern, European and Asian influence and the list goes on. This beautiful city sits on the Yangtze River Delta. There are two parts to Shanghai: the Puxi area which is located on the western side of Huangpu and there is Pudong which is the financial district Lujiazui and was developed on the eastern bank.

The architectural is quite eclectic. The Bund is one of Shanghai famous landmarks, located on the bank of the Huangpu River. It beautifully displays early 20th-century architectural. I remember looking at it for the first time and being amazed of the beauty. My friends and I would go to the bridge in the middle of the night, and we would look on one side and see The Bund and the other would be the skyscrapers of Pudong. Some other famous landmarks are the Shanghai World Financial Center, Jinmao Tower and the Oriental Pearl Tower; I had the pleasure of going up to the observatory of all three buildings.

Shanghai was my home for five months while studying abroad during my sophomore year of university. I also had the opportunity to intern with a NGO while studying. During my five months in Shanghai, I made amazing friends and memories that I will cherish for a life-time. The city of 23 million will always have a piece of my heart and I hope to one day return to a city I once called home.

(Some photos are not mine because I did not have a good camera at the time to really capture Shanghai, but each of the photo are link to the site I got them from)
